How long have you been in the neighborhood?
Lead Pastor Joshua Gutteridge & Cheri Gutteridge
My family and I moved to the Near West Side this past June. We live near United Center Park.
Why the West Loop?
We love the diversity, the food, and the central location of the Near West Side in the great city of Chicago!
What are your top challenges?
We are starting a new church from scratch that wants to serve our neighborhood well and provide support to those ministries and businesses that are making a difference in the lives of people. This takes a posture of genuinely listening to and learning about our community.
Why did you join the West Central?
We know we can learn from business and community leaders. Through collaboration and relationships we can only improve as people and servant-leaders. Also, our desire is to be good neighbors to businesses and leaders in our community. We are better together!
What makes Redeem City Church unique?
Redeem City Church wants to fulfill the mandate of Jesus to show and share His love. We want to be a church “in the city for the city”. Our church aims to be a community of racial and economic diversity united around a message of grace and transformation.
What gets you up in the morning?
My dogs get me up in the morning! Outside of this, we are passionate about showing and sharing the message of Jesus.
What’s your favorite part of the West Loop?
The food, diversity, and easy access to anything you could possibly want or need. So far Randolph street has been our favorite place to go and explore new dining out experiences.
What does the future of Redeem City Church look like?
We hope to be well-known as a church that genuinely helps the community while bringing an authentic and engaging Christian message. We ask ourselves: What if we become well-known as a community where people in crisis are transformed and empowered to bless and seek the welfare of the city? What if we become well-known as a multi-ethnic community of friends who genuinely add value to the neighborhoods of the Near West Side and beyond? What if we become well-known as a church that does not try to fix all problems but helps those who are already bringing solutions to the city? What if we become the type of church that the community would miss if it no longer existed
