Who are you?

Michael Semenzin, Principal of MRSA Architects

How long have you been in the West Loop? To what do you attribute to your success?

We were pioneers in the West Loop. We renovated the building at 1144 W Fulton in the early 1990's and moved in there shortly after. We offer the best bang for the buck and know this neighborhood as well as anyone.

What makes your business unique?

We think outside the box. We offer unique solutions at a reasonable price and we are intrepid learners.

Why are you West Central Association members?

We believe in the neighborhood, always have.

Share something interesting about your business

We were given an opportunity in 2005 to do some lab planning at IIT because of a tenant development relationship. We had never done lab before, but we learned quickly and now are experts in the field. We have done a dozen projects at the University of Chicago.

What are you passionate about?

Personally, golf and reading. Professionally, I really enjoy learning how different businesses work.

What is something that people may not know about your business?

No one realizes how much time it takes to get to a design that appears effortless.

What do you value most about your West Central Association membership?

For us it is really about being entrenched in the neighborhood and giving back.

Bonus Question: Favorite famous Chicagoan?

Shel Silverstein
